Qingsong Xu: Design and Control of Piezoelectric-Driven Nanopositioning Systems

个人简介

Qingsong Xu is an Associate Professor of electromechanical engineering and the Director of Smart and Micro/Nano Systems Laboratory at the University of Macau. He was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), USA in 2016, the RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia in 2016, the National University of Singapore, Singapore in 2012, and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zurich), Switzerland in 2011. His current research area involves control and automation, MEMS-based micro/nano mechatronics and systems, and applications of computational intelligence. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and a Technical Editor of IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics. He has published 2 monographs and over 200 scientific papers in international journals and conferences.

报告内容

Nanopositioning systems refer to positioning devices which can produce displacement with nanometer resolution and accuracy. Such devices are usually used for precise positioning of microrobotic end-effectors dedicated to ultrahigh precision manipulation and assembly applications. Flexure-based compliant mechanisms driven by piezoelectric actuators have been employed widely to achieve precision motion with nanometer resolution. However, the presence of low-damping vibration and piezoelectric hysteresis nonlinearity calls for control design to deliver a precise output. This presentation outlines our recent research work on design and control of piezoelectric-driven compliant motion systems dedicated to precision applications involving micro/nano-positioning and micromanipulation. In particular, several sliding mode controllers have been designed to cater for the motion accuracy requirement and verified through experimental studies. Future work on performance improvement of the nanopositioning system will be discussed.
